Walk a prompt through five steps:
C — Clarity. Start with a specific, clearly defined goal. What do you actually want the AI to do?
L — Logistics. Include the practical details: assignment guidelines, constraints, format, assessment strategy.
E — Examples. Show the AI what you mean with examples, and tell it what you don’t want. This one does more work than people expect.
A — Audience. Identify your learners: their characteristics, needs, existing knowledge, and what you expect of them.
R — Refinement. Treat the first response as a draft. Give feedback, specify vocabulary, and iterate toward the output you need.
The materials below include a one-page planning handout, the full framework reference, the slide deck, and two hands-on exercises (a collaborative prompt activity and a “prompt evolution” walkthrough). Use and adapt them for your own teaching; I just ask that you credit me.
